Очень полиморфный вид, который может быть разделен на несколько очень слабо морфологически обособленных разновидностей. Издаваемый экземпляры, принадлежащие к Z. pumpelliana var. glabra (Drob.) Tzvel. (Цвелев, цит. соч. : 226), имеют почти голые листья и слабо волосистые нижние цветковые чешуи. Они вполне сходны с избранным нами (Цвелев, цит. соч. : 226) лектотипом Bromus sibiricus Drob. Н. Цвелев.
