Вид, характерный для каменистых и щебнистых местообитаний среднего и верхнего горных поясов южного Алтая и Монголии. Относительно более ксерофилен по сравнению с очень близким к нему широко распространенным в Восточной Сибири и Монголии видом F. nensis Drob., от которого отличается слабо развитыми краевыми склеренхимными тяжами в пластинках листьев.
