Характерное растение хвойных (главным образом елово-пихтовых) лесов Сахалина, иногда играющее видную роль в образовании травяно-кустарничкового яруса под их пологом. Заходит и в горные каменноберезовые леса. Распространен по всему Сахалину, но более многочислен в южной трети острова. А. Толмачев.
