Широко распространенный южносибирско-монгольский вид обладает довольно широкой морфологической и экологической амплитудой изменчивости. Как показало изучение типового материала, описанного Я.И. Прохановым культурного вида Allium microbulbum Prokh. (1930, Bull. appl. Bot. 24, 2:180), он практически не отличается от A. altaicum Pall. Признаки, по которым Проханов отличал его от A. altaicum Pall. (более мелкие луковицы, неравная длина цветоножек, более длинные нити тычинок и др.), полностью входят в амплитуду морфологической изменчивости A. altaicum. Поэтому нецелесообразно выделение A. microbulbum в самостоятельный вид. Н. Фризен.
