Образует Компактные, сильно ветвящиеся кусты по окраинам торфяных, реже травянистых болот, сырых ручьев, преимущественно в полосе влияния у моря. Легко узнается по характерному смолистому запаху. На территории советского Дальнего Востока встречается спорадически от Охотии до Приморья (устье р. Киевки), произрастает также на п-ове Камчатка, о-ве Сахалин и на Курильских о-вах. На о-ве Кунашир отдельные экземпляры отмечены на приморских песках. Кроме СССР известно для северной Японии и Северной Америки. Г. Пономарчук, Е. Любицкая.
