Традиционно считается, что два близких вида B. arcuata и B. vulgaris достаточно широко распространены в Вост. Европе. Предварительные иследования показали, что здесь произрастает только B. arcuata (имеет заметно изогнутую разрастающуюся завязь и слегка изогнутые зрелые плоды). Вост. граница ареала B. vulgaris проходит, по-видимому, по Зап. Украине (Карпаты). Почти все "Флоры" относят B. arcuata к однолетним или двулетним травянистым растениям, но это типичный многолетник.
