Распространен в СССР только на юге Приморского края (Надеждинский и Шкотовский районы), где растет в тенистых пойменных смешанных и лиственных лесах в среднем течении рек Горной, Нежинки, Стеклянухи, Артемовки. Ареал этого вида охватывает вост. часть Сев.-Вост. Китая, север п-ова Корея, Японию, (о-ва Хонсю, Сикоку, Кюсю). Близкий американский вид - M. cordata (Nutt.) Britt. - Распространен в вост. штатах США. П. Горовой.
