Бирюсе он еще очень обычен и встречается во множестве особей, а восточнее Бирюсы отсутствует. Несмотря на столь отдаленное от Европы обитание, издаваемое растение не отличается от восточноевропейских образцов того же вида; цвет лепестков малиновый, с явным преобладание красного антоциана и поэтому резко отличный от синей окраски лепестков G. pratense и G. pseudosibiricum, которые распространены восточнее Бирюсы и являются обычными видами Средней Сибири. Вместе с G. sylvaticum на линии реки Бирюсы находят восточный предел распространения также такие западные виды, как Carex elongata L., Orobus vernus L., Libanotis intermedia Rupr.; линия Бирюсы является одной из существенных ботанико-географических границ в бореальной флоре.
