Западноевропейский вид, распространенный на территории СССР в Прибалтике, Белоруссии, на Украине, в сев.-зап. и центр. областях РСФСР (крайние вост. местонахождения обнаружены в Ивановской и Владимирской областях). В зависимости от условий произрастания развивает в пределах одного местонахождения разные формы: от водных, с удлиненными, обычно полегающими и укореняющимися в узлах побегами, до сухопутных, с прямостоячими побегами. Такие разные формы иллюстрирует издаваемый гербарный материал. В. Новиков.
