Ог близкого U. dioica отличается густым опушением всего растения простыми волосками, отсутствием жгучих волосков на листовой пластинке, а также экологически: приурочен к низинным болотам, заболоченным лугам и лесам, и лишь очень редко встречается на рудеральных местообитаниях. Довольно широко распространен в европ. части СССР и южн. районах Сибири на восток до оз. Байкал. Д.Гельтман.
