Растет в Крыму и почти повсеместно на Кавказе, особенно в сухих местностях восточного Кавказа и долины р. Куры, также в Крымско-Новороссийской провинции; в местностях с сухим климатом не разборчиво к почве, в сырой Колхиде, наоборот, обыкновенно приурочено к известнякам и пескам прибрежной полосы. Вертикальное распространение его различно в западном и восточном Кавказе: тогда как в Абхазии и Черноморской губернии он обыкновенно не идет дальше 500'—1500', в Дагестане не редкость встретить его на высоте 3000'—4000'.
